
Born on 12th December 1949 in Boralesgamuwa, Malini debuted at a very young age of 10 as a child artiste at Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.
She came into limelight with the song “Sandamadala”. Often portraying social situations within the country through her songs, few of her hit songs include: “Dakina Wita Pansalak”, “Sanda Ahasa Wage”, “Mala Pothe Akuru”, “Senehasa Illa”, “Premaye Wil There”, “Himi Nathi Pemakata”, “Seetha Arane”, “Dam Paatin”, “Man Hinda”, “Naaga Salamba”.
She sang for many films & tele-dramas and was honored with the Sarasaviya award for the song “Sanda Mora Udu Guwanata” for the film ‘Wathsala Akka’ in 1986.
She contributed to Sooriya’s recording of the song “Harimi Raaja Sapa” a duet with W.D. Amaradeva and “Sri Lanka National Anthem” together with T.M. Jayarathne, Neela Wickramasinghe and Ivor Dennis.
On 29th March 2001 Malini passed away at the age of 52 in United States.
